Medical Travel
Medical travel for dental and cosmetic procedures: a safety checklist
Dental and cosmetic are the most-travelled medical categories — and the most common to need revision. Here is the pre-flight safety list.
Dental and cosmetic procedures account for a large share of medical travel — and a large share of revision cases. A short checklist reduces the risk.
Choose the procedure, not the price
Quote differences are often materials. Cheap implants and expired filler are the two most common causes of revision. Ask for the brand, batch and expiry.
Verify the clinician's individual credentials
For dental, check the license register and any specialist training. For cosmetic, confirm board certification in plastic surgery, not just a medical degree.
Plan the recovery window
Budget for a stay long enough to pass the highest-risk period in-country, where the surgeon can manage a complication before you fly.
Agree the revision policy in writing
What happens if you need a touch-up or a revision? Where is it honoured, and for how long? Get it in the consent form.
Bring the records home
Operative notes, materials list and imaging go with you for your clinician at home. A medical records release template is in the premium Vault.
