How to verify a clinic's accreditation before medical travel
JCI, ISO, national accreditation — what each seal actually means and which ones a marketing site can buy.
Accreditation is the easiest thing to claim and the most important thing to verify. Here is what each seal means.
JCI (Joint Commission International)
The most widely recognised international hospital accreditation. Audits patient safety, clinical governance and infection control. Verify on the JCI registry, not the clinic site.
ISO 9001
A quality management standard. Useful but generic — it does not certify clinical outcomes.
National accreditation
Many countries run their own hospital accreditation. Strong ones (NABH in India, CSG in Mexico) are worth checking on the official registry.
Verify the surgeon, not just the building
Ask for the surgeon's case volume for your specific procedure and their individual board certification. A well-accredited hospital can still assign you a junior surgeon.
The premium Vault includes a 42-question clinic due-diligence questionnaire.
